About

The Savannah and Ogeechee Canal once linked the Savannah and Ogeechee rivers. At its western end, where it meets the Ogeechee River, the canal society runs a small museum and nature center.

Miles of trails pass cypress swamp, river views, rare sandhills and a saw palmetto forest. It's popular with birders, photographers and walkers, and alligators are often seen from the Half Moon Lake trail nearby.

Tips

  • About 14 miles from downtown Savannah in a straight line, so plan it as a drive.
  • Hours and admission change: check the official website before you go.
