About

Built in 1844 in the Greek Revival style on Orleans Square, the house reflects mid-19th-century Savannah life, both for the wealthy families who lived here and for the people who worked in the house.

Preservationist Alida Harper Fowlkes bought it in 1939 and filled it with furniture and art over 40 years. When she died in 1985 she left it to the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Georgia, which still uses it as its headquarters and has added an exhibit on the American Revolution in Georgia. The Coastal Heritage Society runs the tours.
