About

Once called the Irish Green, Emmet Park was named in 1902 for the Irish orator Robert Emmet, a century after his death. It runs along the bluff on East Bay Street, and the live oaks along the sidewalk were first planted in 1857.

It has five memorials: the Irish Celtic Cross (dedicated in 1983 and carved from Irish limestone), a Vietnam War veterans memorial, a Korean War memorial, a Chatham Artillery memorial and a memorial to Dr. Noble Wimberly Jones. The cast-iron Old Harbor Light, put up in 1858, stands at the east end.

The park is a focal point of Savannah's St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
