About
Books on Bay sells vintage books from the 1600s to the late 1900s, from classics and religious titles to Westerns, whodunits, Uncle Remus, the Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind, plus a selection of gently read paperbacks.
Owner Betsy Hoit-Thetford has been selling books in Savannah for years. After the original Bay Street storefront lost its lease, the shop reopened at 411 Abercorn Street between Taylor Square and Clary's Cafe. Savannah Magazine calls it one of the top bookstores in the country for vintage children's series, with first editions and rare volumes from the 1500s. Its wall of yellow-spined Nancy Drew books is a favorite photo spot.
Tips
- Independent shops keep their own hours and some close early in the week: call ahead before a special trip.
